Bringing a bank-to-bank payment platform to market with Clik2pay
Clik2pay set out to let people pay bills straight from their bank accounts, in a crowded market where security decides who wins. We built and launched the platform with them, then helped them build the team that runs it today.

Background
Clik2pay was founded in 2018 by people with deep experience in payments and digital banking. Its platform lets billers send invoices and payment requests that customers pay directly from their bank accounts, in real time, without a credit card in the middle.
In Canada, most recent payment innovation had been built on card networks, which keeps processing costs high for businesses. Clik2pay offers billers a button, link or QR code they can add to any invoice, so customers can pay in a few clicks and billers avoid high transaction fees.
The challenge
Clik2pay needed to get to market quickly, in a competitive field where security is non-negotiable. It needed a development partner that knew payments, had shipped secure payment systems before and could work as one team with Clik2pay’s own people.
Clik2pay chose Electric Mind for that track record, including payment work for Interac and several major banks, and for our agile delivery, cloud expertise and attention to how the system would be run once it was live.
How we worked
Clik2pay started with an Electric Mind cross-functional delivery team. As Clik2pay hired its own developers, we onboarded them and transferred knowledge side by side, until the two groups worked as one co-team. Our Centres of Excellence advised on specific technical questions and on the product roadmap.
The team worked in short agile cycles, so Clik2pay could reprioritize features while the product was being built and respond to what early customers and the market told them.
What we delivered
Together the team designed, built and launched Clik2pay: a scalable, secure platform that new billers can onboard to quickly. It offers:
- A low-cost, guaranteed real-time payment option
- Billing and payment with fewer steps for both sides
- A fast, secure way for customers to pay bills directly from their bank accounts
What Clik2pay owns now
We managed every part of the solution while helping Clik2pay build its in-house team for the long term. Clik2pay now has its own product delivery capability, covering everything from its DevOps pipeline to the platform’s foundational components.
Clik2pay is entering an evolving and highly competitive marketplace where security is paramount. To give the industry comfort and achieve speed to market, it was critical to partner with a proven technology partner like Electric Mind.
Electric Mind gave us the agility to respond to market opportunities. Their development process was very flexible, allowing us to make adjustments in response to changing priorities and early feedback.
